Samuel Seo 서사무엘 es un artista de la escena underground de Corea del Sur que desde hace unos años se ha abierto su propio camino en la industria musical hasta alzarse con el título de "genio musical".
Su participación en Breakers ha puesto el foco de nuevo en Samuel Seo, que acaba de regresar a los escenarios con UNITY y ha presentado Happy Avocado, un tema en el que el artista cuenta su vida con la dualidad de ser artista y una persona normal en soledad.
En BA NA NA hemos podido hablar con el artista después de que Samuel Seo visitara la Fashion Week de Londres y gracias a BeatCraze. ¿Quieres saber qué nos ha contado? ¡No te pierdas la entrevista con Samuel Seo en exclusiva!
Si tuvieras que definir tu estilo, ¿cómo lo harías? ¿Vas a probar nuevos estilos en el futuro?
Siempre me centro en intentar encontrar nuevas formas de crear nuevos sonidos y cominarlos con las historias de mi vida. Cada una de las cosas que escribo están basadas en mi vida real, así que el arte que creo, es mi vida en sí misma.
If you have to define your style, what would you say? Are you going to try new style in future?
I'm always focused on trying to find new ways to create new sounds and combining them with the stories of my life. Every stuff I write about are based on my real life stories so the "art"s that I create, they are just my life itself

Shakka. Hay una historia divertida sobre este artista, porque un día estaba paseando por Nothing Hill en Londres, y nos encontramos por casualidad. Estuvimos hablando un rato, y fue una gran expeciencia.

Are there any artists that you haven't collaborated with but you want to?
Shakka. I have a funny story about this particular musician because this one day I was randomly walking around the street in a district of Notting Hill, London, I came across this guy unexpectedly. Talked a while, great experience.

Acabas de publicar “Happy Avocado”, tu último trabajo. ¿Qué esperas conseguir con él?
Soy una persona que no distingue entre la vida personal y la vida como músico. Simplemente soy una persona que forma parte de la industria musical, que adora cocinar, que le encanta jugar a Diablo y al que le encanta ver el campeonato mundial de Tetris en YouTube cuando acaba el día. En esta canción quería compartir el tipo de persona que soy.
You just realeased your work "Happy Avocado", what do you want to get with this work?
I'm the type of person who don't have lines between my personal life and a life as a musician. I am just a person who's a part of music industry, who loves to cook, who loves to play Diablo, and who loves to watch Tetris world championship on youtube at the end of the day. Just wanted to share what type of person I am throughout the song.

Cualquier cosa con aguacates es mi favorita. Por alguna razón no puedo evitar los aguacates.
If you did a song using an avocado as inspiration or metaphor, sure that you love them! Do you like avocados? Hahaha
Everything including avocados is my favorite I just can't get over avocados for some reason.
¿Qué quieres transmitir con tu música? ¿Qué mensaje buscas transmitir a tus fans?
Acabo de publicar el álbum UNITY, donde su nombre en sí define el movimiento general de mi carrera musical. Actualmente, de donde soy, no sé en España, la gente está mucho más centrada en el individualismo, perdiendo el concepto de unidad, o de ser uno, en otras palabras.
Así que quería recordarle a la gente de mi país –Corea– cómo es esa unión, cómo la convivencia puede crear una energía completamente diferente y lo productivo que es vivir con otras personas, sin estar por encima de nadie, y crear música nueva fuera de mi círculo de confort, donde solía trabar solo y luchaba por ser el mejor.
What do you want to transmit with your music? What message do you want to send to your fans?
I've recently released an album called “UNITY" which the word itself will be my overall movement throughout my entire music career. Nowadays, where I’m from, not sure about yours, people are focusing more on individualism losing the concept of being united, in other words being one.
so what I wanted to remind the people of my country was to show how uniting, living together can create a whole different energy and how productive it is to live with others not on top of others by trying to create new music out of the circle where I used to work alone and struggling to be the top of the line.
Has participado en el programa Breakers. ¿Cuál es tu canción favorita de todas las que has interpretado en el programa?
Mi favorita es “Aroma”. No sé por qué la llamé así, pero su nombre original en coreano es “Cuando dejó de llover” (When The Rain Stopped).
You participated in ' Breakers', what was your favorite song out of all the songs you performed?
My favorite is "aroma" I don't know why I named it aroma then but the original name of the song in Korean was "when the rain stopped".
Al participar en Breakers, ¿te has dado cuenta de que cada artista tiene un proceso creativo diferente o más o menos trabajáis igual en vuestras canciones?
He descubierto que ser un artista en solitario y ser productor de mí mismo a la vez es muy diferente de ser un vocalista o un rapero y tener a tu propio equipo para trabajar en la música juntos. No es que sea bueno o malo, simplemente somos diferentes.
Did 'Breakers' make you realize that your creative process for the songs are different than other artist or all of you were more or less the same in this?
I found out being a stage figure and being a producer of myself at the same time is just so different from being either a vocalist or rapper who has their own team to work on their music together. Not about good or bad, me and them, we were just different.
¿Cuál es tu inspiración en el día a día?
Simplemente voy buscando nuevas experiencias en mi vida que no he tenido hasta ahora. Si ocurre algo especial, se va a convertir en los ingredientes para hacer una canción.
What usually inspires you on a daily basis?
I just walk around trying to bump into new situations I've never been through so far in my life. If anything special happens, that becomes my ingredients to make a song.
Tenemos especial interés en la inspiración detrás del tema “Shall We Dance”, porque tiene cierto ritmo latino e incluso palabras en español al principio.
Eso fue algo divertido que hice con un viejo amigo que es DJ en Corea. Un día me enseñó un ritmo y me dijo “Sam, piensa una melodía, vamos a grabar esto”, y simplemente lo hicimos. Las palabras en español fueron una petición suya. Lo más gracioso es que después de subir la canción, muchas compañías –grandes y pequeñas– contactaban con nosotros para que les vendiéramos la canción para adaptarla y traducirla para sus grupos, pero no lo hicimos. Una vez se sube, está todo hecho. Sin embargo, ya no mantenemos contacto. Muy buenos tiempos.
We're specially curious about the inspiration behind "Shall We Dance", due to it has some latin rythm and some spanish words in the beginning!
That was some fun stuff I did with an old friend who is a local DJ in Korea. One day he came up to me tossing me a beat saying "Sam think of a melody let's record this" and I just did. and the Spanish phrase was the order from him. What's funny is after I uploaded that song, so many local labels from small to big ones kept on calling telling us to sell the song so they can give it to their groups in translated version but we didn't. Once put out, it's done. We are no longer in touch though. Good old days.
¿Qué podemos esperar de ti y tu música durante 2018?
Estoy preparando un single para Diciembre. Va a ser una canción tranquila, y no puedo esperar más para que la conozcáis.
What can we expect from you and your music during 2018?
I'm preparing for a single album on December. It is going to be a calm song. can't wait to release it.
¿Vas a publicar más música en 2018 o tendremos que esperar hasta 2019? ¿Cuáles son tus próximos objetivos?
Estoy trabajando muy duro en mi tercer álbum de studio en este momento. Salga cuando salga (posiblemente sea el año que viene), mi sueño ahora es poder ir a todos los sitios del mundo que pueda para difundir mi música todo lo posible, porque creo que mi carrera musical tendrá un punto de inflexión en este álbum. Os invito a venir a mis conciertos si visito vuestro país o algún vecino.
Will you publish more music in 2018 or will we wait until 2019? What are your next goals?
I'm working really hard on my third full length album at this moment. whenever the album drops (possibly next year), my dream now is to go everywhere around the world possible, to spread my music as wide as possible because I believe that my music career will face a turning point with that album. feel free to come through my shows if I ever get to your neighbor.
Muchos fans internacionales apoyan tu música. ¿Cómo te sientes respecto a eso? ¿Esperabas tener tanta atención y amor de tu fandom internacional?

A lot of international fans are supporting your music, how does it feel? Did you expect have this attention and love from your international fandom?
I'm so grateful for it. and please keep the channel. I am going to make them proud that they are living in the same generation with me.
