Y ahora, tras el final del programa y su vuelta a Japón, Kawaguchi Yurina se encuentra bajo Universal Music Japan y ya ha presentado su esperado debut en solitario con Look At Me. Esta canción es muy especial en muchos aspectos, ya que no solo supone el inicio de una era para ella sino que además se ha involucrado en la letra de la canción. A pesar de que Kawaguchi Yurina ya había comenzado su carrera en Japón, su paso a la fama mundial llegó cuando la artista se presentó como trainee japonesa de Girls Planet 999 en Mnet. La artista consiguió capturar el corazón de todo el público y se convirtió en una de las favoritas del programa de principio a fin.

Yurina, tu vida ha cambiado mucho este último año. Después de Girls Planet 999, tu popularidad se ha disparado a nivel internacional y ahora debutas como solista. ¿Cómo ha cambiado tu vida estos últimos meses? ¿Cómo te sientes?
Girls Planet 999 realmente fue un gran punto de inflexión en mi vida. Ahora puedo apreciar la oportunidad que tengo ahora, gracias a mi experiencia en Girl Planet 999. Si me dijeras que debutaría como solista mientras estaba en el avión de regreso a Japón, no te habría creído. Realmente no puedo expresar mi agradecimiento a todos mis fans y a las personas que he conocido en el camino hasta ahora.
Yurina, your life has changed a lot this last year. After Girls Planet 999, your popularity has exploded internationally and now you debut as a soloist. How have your live changed these last months? How do you feel?Girls Planet 999 really was a huge turning point in my life. I’m really able to appreciate the opportunity I have now, because of my experience on Girl Planet 999. If you told me that I would be debuting as a solo artist while in the plane on my flight back to Japan, I wouldn’t have believed you. I really can’t express my thanks to all of my fans, and the people I’ve met along the way to now.

Creciste en Japón y allí diste tus primeros pasos profesionales como actriz, cantante o incluso en programas de Disney. ¿Qué recuerdas de esa época?
Siento que gran parte de mi experiencia como ídolo y actriz son fortalezas para mí ahora. En el pasado tuve muchas experiencias difíciles, pero ahora me doy cuenta de que todas esas fueron cosas necesarias para mí, para estar aquí ahora. Espero poder continuar manteniéndome activa como artista, modelo y actriz, y mostrar los diferentes lados de Kawaguchi Yurina a todos.
You grew up in Japan and started your first steps there, as an actress, singer or even in Disney shows. What do you remember from that time?I feel like that a lot of my experience as an idol, and an actress, are strengths for me now. There were a lot of difficult experiences I had in the past, but I now realize that those were all necessary things for me to go through, to be here now. I hope that I can continue to stay active as an artist, model, and actress, and show the different sides of Kawaguchi Yurina to everyone.
¿Cuándo y cómo te interesaste por la música? ¿Quiénes dirías que son tus principales influencias musicales?
Mientras crecía mi madre era fan de BoA, por lo que era común para mí escuchar la música de BoA en el automóvil, en casa y ver sus videos musicales desde que estaba en preescolar. Esa fue mi primera exposición importante a la música y la que me despertó la curiosidad. Desde la escuela primaria, admiraba a Girl's Generation y Kara. También fui al show en vivo de Anzen Chitai con mis padres; Me impresionó mucho la expresividad de Koji Tamaki y hasta el día de hoy sigo yendo a los espectáculos de su orquesta.
When and how did you become interested in music? Who would you say are your main musical influences?Growing up, my mother was a fan of BoA, so it was common for me to hear BoA’s music in the car, at home, and watch her music videos from the time I was in pre-school. That was my first major exposure to music that sparked curiosity for me. From elementary school, I looked up to Girl’s Generation, and Kara. I went to Anzen Chitai’s live show as well with my parents; I was really impressed by Koji Tamaki’s expressiveness and still go to his orchestra shows to this day.

Tu debut en solitario es con tu sencillo digital “Look At Me”. ¿Qué nos puedes contar sobre esta canción? ¿Qué la hace tan especial y única?
“Look At Me” es un recordatorio para dejar de compararse con los demás. Espero que esta canción pueda ayudarte a sacar la fuerza que vive en lo más profundo de todos y superar los sentimientos de inseguridad y conflicto. La confianza, la fuerza y el equilibrio son los temas de la canción.
Your solo debut is with your digital single “Look At Me”. What can you tell us about this song? What makes it so special and unique?
“Look At Me” is about remembering to stop comparing yourself to others. I hope that his song can help you pull out the quiet strength that lives deep inside everyone, and overcome feeling insecure, and conflicted. Quiet confidence, strength, and poise are themes of the song.
¿Qué dificultades has encontrado mientras te preparabas para tu debut en solitario y qué has aprendido de este importante paso profesional?
Entré en Girls Planet completamente sin preparación; Después de regresar a Japón y tener la oportunidad de debutar como solista, me sumergí de lleno en la formación vocal y de baile. Tuve que trabajar en arreglar una voz de canto nasal, proyectar mi voz y otras cosas. También he estado aprendiendo algunos idiomas extranjeros para poder comunicarme mejor con mis fans.
What difficulties have you encountered meanwhile preparing for your solo debut and what have you learned from this important professional step?I went into Girls Planet completely unprepared; after returning to Japan and getting the opportunity to debut as a solo artist I dove headlong into vocal and dance training. I had to work at fixing a nasal singing voice, projecting my voice and other things. I’ve also been learning a few foreign languages so that I can better communicate with my fans.
Has escrito la letra de tu sencillo "Look At Me". ¿Qué te inspiró a escribir esta canción? ¿Cómo fue el proceso creativo?
Realmente tuve muchas experiencias durante mi tiempo en Girls Planet, así que vertí esos sentimientos y pensamientos en las letras. La parte del puente de la canción “No importa los dolores o fracasos que tengas, nadie recordará el mañana, como una flor marchita envío mis oraciones al cielo”; son parte de las letras en las que realmente he pensado mucho.
You have written the lyrics for your single “Look At Me”. What inspired you to write this song? How was the creative process?I really had so many experiences during my time on Girls Planet, so I poured those feelings and thoughts into the lyrics. The bridge part of the song “No matter what pains or failures you have, no one will remember tomorrow, like a withering flower I send my prayers to the sky”; are a part of the lyrics I really put a lot of thought into.

Tu tiempo en Girls Planet 999 nos conquistó a todos y los fanáticos te mostraron mucho amor. ¿Cómo fue la experiencia? ¿Qué fue lo mejor y lo más difícil durante todo el programa?
Durante mi tiempo en Girls Planet, pude pasar tiempo con chicas de Corea y China, y personas de todo el mundo me animaron. Pude aprender muchas cosas nuevas culturalmente, ¡y todo era tan nuevo para mí! Pensé para mis adentros "el mundo es realmente un lugar tan amplio". Lleno de cosas de las que no sé nada y nunca he visto o experimentado. Siento que esa fue la mejor parte de participar en Girls Planet para mí y me ayudó a crecer.
El recuerdo más difícil para mí fue durante la primera ronda de votación individual. Una vez que termina la ronda, las chicas con las que trabajaste duro debes decirles adiós y ellas deben irse. Realmente no puedo expresar con palabras cómo se siente, aunque sabía que esas eran las reglas del espectáculo. Y durante “Missing You”, sentí que realmente necesitaba asumir la parte fuerte de la canción y asumí la responsabilidad. Siento que no pude hacerlo lo mejor que pude. Los otros miembros realmente me apoyaron y lo superé, pero todavía me siento frustrado cuando pienso en ello.
Your time on Girls Planet 999 won us all over and the fans showed you a lot of love. How was the experience? What was the best and the most difficult during the whole program?During my time on Girls Planet, I was able to spend time with girls from Korea and China, and people from all over the world were cheering for me. I was able to learn many new things culturally, and everything was so new to me! I thought to myself “the world is really such a wide place.” Filled with things that I know nothing about and have never seen or experienced. I feel like that was the best part of participating in Girls Planet for me and helped me grow.The most difficult memory for me was during the 1st individual voting round. Once the round ends, girls that you worked hard with, you have to say bye to, and they must leave. I can’t really put into words how it feels, even though I knew that those were rules of the show. And during “Missing You”, I felt that I really needed to take on the killing part of the song and took on the responsibility. I feel like I couldn’t do it to the best of my ability. The other members really supported me, and got through it, but I still feel frustrated when I think about it.

Queremos que tus fans te conozcan mejor y tenemos una pregunta que siempre les hacemos a todos nuestros entrevistados. ¿Tienes algún talento oculto? (Cocina, deportes, tocar instrumentos…)
Puedo concentrarme mucho en las cosas que me gustan. Puedo trabajar sin parar en un rompecabezas de 1000 piezas durante horas y ver series de películas que me gustan sin parar, como Harry Potter, Avengers, etc. ¡hasta el punto de no ser capaz de escuchar cuando la gente dice mi nombre!
We want your fans to get to know you better and we have a question that we always ask to all of our interviewees. Do you have any hidden talents? (Cooking, sports, playing instruments…)I can get super focused on things that I like. I can work non-stop on a 1000-piece puzzle for hours, and watch movie series that I like non-stop, like Harry Potter, Avengers etc; to the point of not even being able to hear when people call my name!
Tienes una larga carrera en solitario por delante, pero nos gustaría conocer tus retos profesionales. ¿Con qué estilo de música o concepto visual te gustaría desafiarte?
Quiero desafiarme a mí mismo con diferentes creatividades en el futuro, pero todas exclusivamente Kawaguchi Yurina.
You have a long solo career ahead of you, but we would like to know about your professional challenges. What style of music or visual concept would you like to challenge yourself with?I want to challenge myself with different creatives moving forward, but all uniquely Kawaguchi Yurina.

Kawaguchi Yurina. Solo quiero poder mostrarles quién soy realmente de muchas maneras en el futuro.
If you had to describe yourself as an artist, what phrase or word would you use and why?Kawaguchi Yurina. I want to just be able to show you who I really am in many ways moving forward.
¿Tienes un objetivo en mente como artista? Qué es y por qué?
No tengo ningún objetivo en particular por ahora. ¡Solo quiero concentrarme en tomar las cosas paso a paso y continuar creando recuerdos con mis fans!
Do you have a goal in mind as an artist? What is it and why?I don’t have any particular goal for now. I just want to focus on taking things step-by-step and continue to make memories with my fans!
